Cold & Frail
27 December, 2004
Author: Ben Franklin
I'ts the winter season and I dont want to
leave this bed,
Im 79 years old and this bitter coldness
feels like stab wounds
from my legs to my head.
This time of year is like a war
for people like myself,
fighting against the cold
trying to protect our health.
At least 5 people die in this home every
year,
terminal illnesses dont bother me,
the cold is my number 1 fear.
------- Author's Notes -------
Many "old" people die because of the cold this time of year. |

joyce ivy (68.19.179.139) -- Monday, December 27 2004, 07:42 pm great job on this one...and very true...i work part time at a nursing home...have for 4 years...and it's so sad...to watch these people die...I have had to watch them die not from the cold...but from their age and their health...it breaks my heart each time I get close to one of them and then I come in the next weekend and another one is dead...I get so tired of it...but I can't seem to quite...I love them all so much...and my heart goes out to each one of them...your poem is heart breaking because in so many places they really do die from the cold...my dad is 68 and has crippling arthritis...and it's so sad to watch him go down...especially since my mom died...but he will never see the inside of a nursing home...except to sing with his church...something he loves to do each week...when able...thank you for sharing your poem...great job...joyce |
