Hypocrisy

vinebar

I've been locked up for 3 years without trial,
Im an innocent man who is being treated vile.

They say im a threat to national security,
Im a muslim who believes in a peace and purity.

A crackdown on terror,
I've been put here to make up statistics,
the first 2 months in here were hell,
banging my head against the wall
I was going ballistic.

'Rumour' has it I have connections with al-queda,
it couldnt be further from the truth,
when I was first questioned I hit the
roof!

Im locked in here with animals that are so cold,
Im an innocent man who's freedom you have
stole.

you toppled saddam because of his evil games,
your not any better,
your all just the same.

------- Author's Notes -------

I wrote this after we was told that a few muslim man have been sent to prison without trial, this man has 3 years because he "may" be a threat to national security.

now he may well be a threat, but it is illegal to send someone to prison without trial. now of course we are not as brutal as saddam was, but in my eyes we are just as bad.

injustice

Hey Ben! Your poems are headed in the journalist direction! I might even see you on the news one day, saying, "I'm Ben Franklin, this is ABC news". Yes, injustice is widespread, and so is hypocrisy. Man isn't perfect but yet, we could be fair, equal, and practice justice some more. 3 years in prison without trial, without evidence, without proof, without documents to determine the issue of the specified charges against the victim. Some tend to sentence people, knowing that they are innocent, but doing it for pleasure, and abusing authority. This also reminds me of eminent domain, where the goverment takes people's property and businesses and turn them into, let's say, for politician's pet projects. As always, geniune, remarkable poetry! Yes, we aren't as brutal as Saddam, but in a sense, we are a little bad. Not as in physical brutality, but morally speaking, justice-wise. Everyone in the world is fallible, no doubt, but when it's far from error, there is no excuse for our actions. We can do better!
Right on, right on! Ben, state the facts! -Meri
