If

If I should die before you do,
There's just one thing I want to say.
Though we're apart I still love you,
Even after all this time and distance.
I never stopped loving you all this time,
My love never lessened, it only grew deeper.
No matter how many times I've tried,
I just can't move, I just can't forget.
I suffered in silence and cry myself to sleep,
Hoping you'll return to me one day.
You moved on so quickly, and fell for many others.
They never lasted long, but it still hurt so much.
Every time I hear that you're in love again,
The pain sears so deeply into my heart.
If each time I hurt it'll leave a scar,
Come count the scars, I'm sure there will be countless.
And If I were to die today,
Would you say that you love me too?
Or would you walk away and never turn back,
Leaving me to die with a broken heart?
What will it take to hear you say,
That you love me and have all along?
If my dying would let me hear that,
Then I think that my death's worth it.
Just to hear you say you love me one last time.

Pamela (66.38.146.116) -- Friday, September 19 2003, 05:18 pm This poem is beautiful, but also tragically sad. You see, I know someone who once thought they could get that last "I love you" out of their ex-lover by presenting them with near-death. And the reaction was so very short of it. He laughed and went on his way. So you see, as wonderful as your words are, I am hoping that your intent isn't to bring them to life. Because I can tell you from experience, it doesn't work. And you shouldn't have to, if he really loves you. Best of luck Charmaine :o) |
