Acceptance

It's hard to make a painful decision
Even when you know it's for the best
There's only so much pain you can endure
When your strength is put to the test
We sometimes say goodbye to friendships
Though we don't always know the cause
Sometimes they go full circle
There's no pre-defined "get-out clause"
I knew for too long there was a problem
And gave you opportunity to speak
But you chose not to say and waved me away
And my anxiety grew by the week
I'm still unaware of the problem
Possibilities prey on my mind
It does me no good to worry this way
It's certainty that I need to find
I know you're busier with your life now
And it's hard for you to find much time
To keep in touch with your wonderful friends
Only I'm hurt that I'm last in line
I have to accept no more friendship
And this is so hard to do
Because I miss you, you see, and I think you should know
There's no friend as special as you
So this is not just goodbye but a THANK YOU
For the six and a half years you gave me
I know you've exhausted your love and support
So I'm setting our friendship free
Goodbye my friend
Love Always

J Freedom Long (151.203.61.74) -- Friday, December 24 2004, 02:35 am Wonderful poem to stir many thoughts.... wondering about silence that someone once said could be the cruelest form of communication ..think it was Robert Louis Stevenson?..who also wrote "Gulliver's Travels"..to not really know the why of goodbyes is so sad...thanks for shaking me up to never allow goodbyes with a dear friend or lover or anyone... to be ambiguous or silent communication...when a poem gives the reader a deep lesson...wow... Thanks....Jerry |
