When I'm Gone
19 March, 2001
Author: Christa
I don't know when I will be taken from this earth
But it's an inevitable part of my future
I'm sure I won't be ready to go
It will creep up on me when I'm least expecting it
Like a lightning show in the middle of July
My friends and family will ask questions
Thinking the answers will be heard from a booming voice in the sky
But they won't
So I will answer them before the time comes
First, know that there is a purpose for everything in life
Some realize the purpose, others don't
If you are unaware of why something happened
And don't figure it out in time
Then you weren't meant to know
Realize this.then move on
If you do see the purpose, run with it
Feel fulfilled
Knowing that you are aware of something
That is still kept a secret from others
Next
If you miss me
Find comfort in the fact that we will meet again
Eventually
Until then, remember me
Remember the good.yet don't forget the bad
I have my flaws
I never like to admit when I'm wrong
I am argumentative
I procrastinate
But don't let these weaknesses overshadow the good memories
Which hopefully outweigh the bad
Remember my laugh
I'm sure you heard it often
Keep in your memory box of a mind
My love for dancing
Even when there was no music
And how I would never stop talking
Hold tightly in a closed palm the greatest of all memories
The most important thing of all
My love for you
If we were family, thank you for letting me be myself
For seeing me in my many moods and dispositions
Yet loving me just the same
If you were my close friend and confidant
Know I am thankful for your support
Through the difficult times
Of this crazy thing we call life
If you and I were two that crossed paths once in awhile
And only said "hi" and "bye"
Thank you, too
For helping me realize there's so much more to life
Than what's inside my own little bubble
If you and I seemed to be enemies
And you never had a kind word for me
Thank you for humbling me
And for challenging me to be sweeter to you
Than I would be to my best friend
So when I'm gone
Keep in mind my gratitude
Feel in your heart my love
Carry on with my strength
And
Remember
Me
------- Author's Notes -------
I don't know where exactly this poem came from, it's just one of those things that slaps you in the side of the head when you're least expecting it. I wrote this about 2 weeks before the anniversary of my car accident...I guess that was my motivation |
