An Apple A Day

As a 13year old girl
there is so much pressure to look like somebody else,
magazines promote good looks and wealth,
but it seriously damaged my health.

I was a big girl who got bullied at school,
If you didnt look stunning,
it was as if you had broken a rule,

so after meal time at home,
I would go upstairs to the toilet
and bring up my dinner,
I didnt think about the future consequences,
I just wanted to look thinner,

It then got to the point where I looked
skinny and Ill,
an apple a day would be my main meal,

My mother was so upset,
she would say,
"please come of this killer diet",
But I had no words left in me,
I just kept quite,

Then when I hit 17 I found the man of my dreams,
his name was Sid,
I became his wife,
but because of those evil children and magazines
I couldnt give him what we both wanted...
a kid.

------- Author's Notes -------

Young girls(and boys)can be so infulenced by the media.
just the other day the papers were saying that children as young as 5 years of age, were talking about future surgery because they were not happy with the way they look!

we have magazines praising these so called celbrities,
"Today, check out jordans new sized boobs, see how they changed her life! "check out so and so's new lips".

I really wouldnt want to be a young child again growing up in this time.

I know where you coming from

And the ppl who buy that crap are ppl who tend to be insecure and the ppl who shoulnd be reading that crap...But the media is a powerful tool.No matter what kinda thing you want to 'promote'the media will do it,good or bad.Great poem though.Keep on writing..x

Hi Ben,

hi sweetie, glad to read your words..i am sooo with you..God made us all the way we are for a reason .....to challenge mother nature one must face the consequences..the fads and ads make it seem like going through adolesence is improper and if you don't have a curvacious killer bod for the gals and six pack abs for the guy ...you caint make it.....we are all individual as a snow flake..and our beauty is skin deep..the inner muscles of the heart & the brain are what really counts...it has to be tough for the new generation of guys and gals.....in mine (just last year LOL ...let's not mention how far back it was..)it was the sliding scale of drugs and getting past that temptation..of skipping class...and having to face 6 brothers..you know already what i chose...some of us made it through the loop holes while a small percentage were far too deep..thanx for sharing this...Terrie*

Glad to see you back

Yeah, we have to be careful when we say we want to look like somebody else, as far as role models go! Speaking of celebrities, I see the major money they put in for these facelifts, and boob insertions, (breast implants), and etc... Surgery, surgery, surgery. Cutting and sewing skin... Whew, how can they take it!! (lol)
As always, genius writing! Alright journalist, take it easy now...

I think that...

this is something evryone can relate to in some way or another. We all have days when we dont want to look in the mirror or we want to change something about the way we look, but we have to learn to love ourselves for who we are, not what we look like.
Yet another fab poem Ben. Keep up the good work.
