Our Son

His tears you can feel
his cry
only you can hear
as his dad
I know you too cry
because you can not help

things going through his mind
that I can never answer
things that he may never share

things that only you as his dad
could ever begin to understand
without having to ask

as his mother:
his tears I feel throughout the night
his cry I hear when I'm out of sight
makes my heart feel so heavy
of the thought that I could never
give him the answer he seeks

he questions my belief in God
and why I devote myself
to a God whom took his dad away

a young man so innocent
so brave so full of life
but has no idea where to begin
I feel him just giving up

His tears roll down your cheeks
his cry stuck and lost inside your heart

I know you too cry
along his side
as his mom
I know not what to do..

you as his dad
the only dad he has ever known
and will ever have

as his mother:
all I have to offer
is my unconditional love

perhaps he is angry at me
for being angry at you for leaving me
with two young children to raise all alone

your promise you didn't keep
that together you and I
we would be
to grow old together, watching our grandchildren play close by

send me some answers from Heaven
I seek not
happiness for me
but for our son

until then
I'll continue to feel his tears along with yours
seeping deep
and ripping at my heart...

I am so proud
that he is OUR Son
