The Little Hopper

A little lemon hopper went
to forage on his own
and disobeyed his mother by
meandering far from home.
When Mummy Locust found him
she felt a great relief
to see him sitting in the grass
and nibbling on a leaf.
A hungry gecko scurried by
just looking for some lunch,
before she could give warning
Mum heard an awful crunch!
Her son was in the lizard’s mouth
legs wriggling about;
the gecko didn’t swallow him
but gave a croaky shout.
It spat him out and scampered off
just as a snake slid near
and hissed at little hopper who
began to shake with fear.
“Come quick” his Mother called to him;
they jumped into a tree,
where mummy saw the lizard must
have munched away his knee.
Thanks to the snake he might be in
the hungry lizard’s tummy,
but he has learned his lesson now
and listens to his mummy.
