This Lonely Night
13 April, 2005
Author: Ing Twi Demalah
here i rest, hands folded,
eyes half open in the dim light.
looking off in the distance,
searching for her.
yet she never comes
ears attuned to the slightest sound,
i hear my breath,
the faint beating of my heart.
i strain to hear her voice,
listening anxiously for her.
yet she never speaks
the smell of trees blown by the wind
drifting lightly past,
beneath the endlessly shining stars,
set in a black velvet sky
i tilt back my head to catch her fragrance.
yet she never passes by
sudden saddness grips me
as i clench my jacket tight
and tears that come from,
who knows where, fall softly from my eyes
she is not to be found,
hidden from my sight
on this cold, this lonely night.
