My Invisible Friend

There once was a little boy,
Who had an invisible friend.
His parents called him silly,
They believed it was just pretend.

One day the boy became ill,
The doctors told them he might die.
He’d slipped into a coma,
And his parents began to cry.

One night at the hospital
They paid a visit to his room.
There they saw the strangest sight,
The whitest light cut through the gloom.

There He was, in His glory,
The Son of God sat on the bed.
What He said, they could not hear,
Though they were sure their boy was dead.

Much the same as He’d appeared,
He slowly faded from their view.
Fearfully they neared the bed,
Not sure if what they saw was true.

Their boy rested quietly,
As tears fell from his parents eyes.
When they heard, “Don’t cry mommy.”
The two were taken by surprise.

They called out for a doctor,
Because they wanted to be sure.
And when all the tests were done,
He asked them where they found the cure.

But they didn’t say a thing,
About the vision they both saw.
They just embraced each other,
Consumed by a feeling of awe.

And in the days that followed,
They kept thinking about that sight.
The Lord sitting with their son,
Surrounded by that haunting light.

They asked if he remembered,
The boy just looked at them and grinned.
He gave them a kiss and said,
“That was my invisible friend.”
