Shrouded Echoes
16 March, 2004
Author: Capricorn
A dusty photo album sucked me back
through life, unwrapping memories I'd shoved
away; their faces - free of Time's attack,
were focussed on the child they dearly loved.
Today they're wedged apart by their divorce.
My father died - yet was bestowed new life
. resuscitated by tremendous force,
and cherished by the love of his new wife.
Confusions mist surrounds my mothers mind,
whose life is tied, by vile Alzheimer's curse.
She trips, as past and present are entwined
I mop up floods of strife as roles reverse.
When shrouded echoes are recalled, the past
engulfs my heart; full rivers swell their sides.
As childhood moments are refreshed, with vast
kaleidoscopes of photographs and slides,
the brimming rivulets begin to spill.
I tuck those treasured, bygone years away.
I sometimes struggle up the Giant's Hill
or through a Monsters Tunnel, in dismay.
Take courage! . many lustrous lights still burn
in distant fields. With thoughts aglow I shun
my shadows, to pursue the dreams I yearn .
embraced by hope, I gaze towards the sun.

Meridian (205.188.208.166) -- Thursday, March 18 2004, 08:06 pm Capricorn; you don't mind if I call you Cap, do you? I know you don't know me that well, but if you don't like it, I'll understand. By the way, I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your father and your mother. I wish we could all make things better with the flick of a wand; but I know it's not that easy. Heart-felt poem Capricorn! |
