Let A Child Be A Child

before I walked in
I heard her screaming
at her children

she continued to scold them
and apologized to me
for the mess she felt
her childrem had made

I said honey
you and I need to sit and
have a long talk over a cup of coffee
we sat around the kitchen nook

look over there
what do you see?

life is too short
you see the same as I

two young children at play
but for how long?
that no one can say

life isn't about a child in an adult world
theres more to it so relax
lots of time for clean ups

we all know
house work will stay
but our little ones will
grow up and move away

let them be kids
if something breaks
just materialistic
easily replaced

but a childs fragile heart
very difficult to replace
when we use negative words

give the child room to explore
we will all make mistakes
that’s how we all learn

discipline need not be harsh
right words at the right time

children are explorers
give them a positive heart
one thing I learned long ago as a parent

know your boundaries as well as your limits
let love loose
from where it grows

they too learn
to use and give of that love
let them be kids
let them enjoy
so you can enjoy them too

someday you will look back at every yesterday
there will be the time
when the embilical cord will snap you so hard
like a grape vine cuttin' loose
after being tied down

let them be kids
be a kid along with them
a child will not remain
a child forever

give them room
to grow up
not away
from your heart

True Terrie*

I was brought up like that and its good to look back. While my friends hid things from their dad, I had him as a friend.My mom was there to talk to me.I may not remember everything but all I know is that I had freedom at home.People do need patience to tolerate kids & their pranks..Seems like you have a lot of them!! Thanks for sharing!
