Nails

vinebar

i've hammered some nails in my life
it's something i can't change
but i hope you know i'm trying
each and every day

i've pulled out those nails
all thanks to you
your lifetime lessons i had to learn to accept
and put to good use

i'm sorry
i know those holes i've made won't heal
i can't take those scars away
but please know you've changed how i feel

not i love to be alive
i love where i am
i love all my talents
all my faults
there's no longer i can't do's
there's only i can's

i feel it deep into my heart
each day waking to a brighter sun
opening my eyes against the light
like my life has just begun

you are my inspiration
i owe you more than i can ever give
you've changed my outlook on everything
and you've taught me how to live

if there was anything i could do to repay
i'd throw away those nails before their holes were made
so when you looked back on that time in our lives
you'd remember nothing but love, smiles and brighter days

but i can only change the days in our future
and for the past, supply and endless amount of "i'm sorry's"
i'll make each new day better than the last
in hopes that you'll forgive and love me always
