If I Ever Lost You
17 May, 2005
Author: Terrie*
reckless am I
with this love I call mine
I imprison my own heart
by sentencin' it
with my selfish ways
I gave my love freely
but managed to kill it
by cagin' it
when I placed shackles on my words
that bruised an innocent heart
I gave it no freedom
no room to breathe
yet on two feet do I stand
with my heart cemented
in the ground
I managed to destroy love
my punishment
a broken heart
shattered beyond repair
because I wasn't cautious
with somethin' so fragile
because I never reminded myself daily
where love grows
and what happens to it when the burial of it's death goes away
if I had another chance at love
I know what I'd do
and I'd know what not to do
now that I lost you
