Oh Baby!
21 May, 2005
Author: Capricorn
Lulled in a dream-cloud
of fairytale fantasy --
back to bleak reality,
I’m late this morning.
No time for e. mails,
the clock’s hands are
rushing round.
Hush … baby don’t cry.
Last night’s dishes
still swamp the sink,
the floor’s been printed
by muddy feet --
mop’s mislaid
and now the baby’s crying.
Yesterday’s clothes
shout out -- “wash us,”
a tower of ironing groans.
Windows are smudged with
fingerprints
from infantile activities.
When will the clock’s finger
point to my time for fun?
… and still that baby’s crying!
Listen!
don’t lure me away --
no time to play, I must
shine those hazy windows
`til they glisten
when sunrays start to blaze.
I’ll scour those dirty dishes,
swab the kitchen floor,
sort the soiled laundry
spilling over by the door.
I’ll iron out the wrinkles
left behind yesterday.
Hurry up
and scurry round --
oh, damn that baby’s crying!
Yes … damn you computer
with your big baby eyes,
stop whining for attention,
you know I can’t resist
your tempting treasures
any longer
I’ll peek at my messages ….
Oooooh … Mama loves her baby
now chores will never get done --
but I’ll have some fun.
