he shared with me
of his fear of his loss
since he lost his best friend
both transiets from town to town

he always shared what Linda said
he always laughed and said
Linda was a voice in his head

"two peas in a pod "
was what he'd repeat
over and over again like 1 2 3
before he hit the street
searchin' for what was left on the curb

well on the day his best friend
was found without a beat
such sadness to witnesss
some of the homeless expressed

he always called his best friend"Pepe"
spanish for Joe
don't call him Andy or Andrew
his name was Andres
he was not ashammed of who he was
mama was white
but his daddy was mexicano

as he would say
a vato with dignity a man with pride
up until the day he died
fighting in the war
the governments whore

but he was proud
and always took care of his wife and son
so remember his name
life may be a game
but he wants to make sure
you don't die alone

his friend was late for the mornin' pick up
he shook him and he shaked him
with tears rolling down his weather beaten face

Joe was his best friend
since they were 17
heck he married Joe's only baby sister
Linda was her name
they were blessed with a little girl
named Anjolette after the two

she always told him
that he and Joe were like 2 peas in a pod
cause that’s what she always heard her mama say
and that they were

they stood by one another
before during and after their time in the war
they seen more pain than they asked for
much more than his father saw

when they came home to build up
what they feared they almost lost

he explained
and confessed
with so much shame
that they all
cheated on their spouses and girlfriends
while away at war

because no one ever expected to come back alive
they figured oh what the hell
yet, he said we come home and end up losin' it all

Joe came back and had plans
to show Linda off
and well you guessed the rest
Andres spotted her first

later in life both lost their mates
Joes wife found comfort in another man
a year later Linda went out
to buy Anjolette a gift
for her 7th birthday
drunk driver took wife and daughters lifes at the scene

neither one ever married again
instead it kicked Joe into depression
his next mate was a bottle of Gin
or any bottle that he'd get his hands on
because he lost his wife
to another man
and only sister and niece to the devils grip
and out in to the society that forgot
about our heros
now once again they are separated
but Andres knows it is only for a short time
